St. Thomas Evangelical Lutheran Church (UAC)
Lutheran Church
St. Thomas Evangelical Lutheran Church (UAC) is a confessional Lutheran congregation joyfully serving Magnolia, Texas, and the greater Montgomery County area. We are a member of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) and firmly stand on the foundation of the inerrant Word of God and the Lutheran Confessions as the faithful exposition of Holy Scripture.
Our name, "St. Thomas," reminds us of the Apostle who moved from doubt to faith upon seeing the risen Christ. Like him, we are gathered and strengthened by Jesus’ voice and His gifts, not by sight, but by faith. We are the sheep who hear the voice of the Good Shepherd and follow Him (John 10:16).
At St. Thomas, we are committed to reverent, Christ-centered worship that is rooted in the historic liturgy of the Christian Church. We do not gather to be entertained or distracted, but to be forgiven, renewed, and fed with Christ’s Body and Blood in the Divine Service. Our worship is not self-expression; it is reception of the gifts Christ gives through His Word and Sacraments.
We confess that Christians are called by God’s grace alone to live in the unity of the faith (Eph. 4:3–6; 1 Cor. 1:10), and that such unity is not manmade, but created by the Holy Spirit through the Means of Grace. Thus, we gather fraternally and faithfully around Christ’s Means of Grace—Baptism, Absolution, the Lord’s Supper, and the preaching of the Gospel. These gifts create and sustain faith, grant forgiveness of sins, give spiritual life, and ensure eternal salvation (John 17:20; Rom. 10:17; Acts 2:38–39; Titus 3:5; Matt. 26:26–28).
We believe that doctrine matters. Our confession of faith is not vague or generic, but fully Lutheran. We accept and confess the entire Book of Concord of 1580 as a true and faithful exposition of Scripture. This includes the three Ecumenical Creeds, the Unaltered Augsburg Confession, the Apology of the Augsburg Confession, the Smalcald Articles, the Treatise on the Power and Primacy of the Pope, Luther’s Small and Large Catechisms, and the Formula of Concord. These writings are not alternatives to the Bible, but are normed by it, expressing what the Church has always believed, taught, and confessed.
Only purely Lutheran hymns, songs, liturgies, and historic lectionaries are used in our public worship, as they conform to our confessional standard and serve to build up the Body of Christ in reverence and truth. At St. Thomas, we take seriously the biblical call to do all things decently and in good order (1 Cor. 14:40). This includes how we worship, how we teach, how we handle spiritual and material affairs, and how we care for one another as the Body of Christ.
As a congregation of the LCMS, we enjoy fellowship with churches around the world who share our confession and mission. Yet our identity is local and personal. We are a spiritual family of believers from Magnolia and the surrounding areas who are united in the one true faith. We are not a social club or activist group, but the Church—the people of God gathered by His Word, living in His mercy, and sharing His truth.
Our mission is clear: to proclaim the Gospel faithfully, to gather around Christ’s Means of Grace, and to live in His light (John 8:12). This means we are not here to sell a message or build a brand, but to be stewards of the mysteries of God (1 Cor. 4:1). We exist to speak what God has spoken, to forgive as we have been forgiven, and to pass on the faith once delivered to the saints (Jude 1:3).
We are committed to catechesis and Christian education for all ages. We offer Family Catechesis on Sunday mornings as a time for households to learn together through God’s Word and the Small Catechism. Whether through weekly Bible studies, confirmation instruction, or seasonal devotions and festivals, we aim to form our members in the mind of Christ and equip them for faithful living in a confused and chaotic world.
St. Thomas is also dedicated to the care and consolation of the suffering. In the tradition of the Church's pastoral care, our pastor visits the sick, the homebound, and those in spiritual distress with Christ’s Word and Sacraments. We believe that the Gospel is not only for Sunday morning, but for every hour of our earthly pilgrimage.
In a world that increasingly despises or distorts the truth, we stand firm in the faith, not with arrogance, but with bold humility grounded in Christ. We do not innovate, but hand on what we have received (1 Cor. 11:23). We are not driven by trends, but by the timeless Word of God.
We warmly invite all who are weary, burdened, confused, or seeking truth to come and hear the voice of the Good Shepherd. In Him, there is rest for the soul, peace for the conscience, and hope that does not disappoint.
