Disciple-making begins by leading a person to Christ, but it doesn't stop there. We are commanded to help people throughout the world become rooted in the foundations of the faith. Matthew 28:19-20 and Acts 1:8
The Human Race
Every member of the human race has fallen into a bottomless pit and no matter how hard we try, we can't get out; the hole is just too deep. The good news is, we don't have to get ourselves out. The heart of the Gospel, Jesus' sacrifice, is strong enough to lift us from those pits. With His death, burial and resurrection, Jesus offered deliverance and assurance.
What is Discipleship?
In the New Testament, Jesus' disciples were students, pupils or learners, and Jesus was their teacher. He wanted them to be just like Him, their teacher.
During their time with Christ, the disciples had to learn information and how to practically apply what they learned.
The goal of discipleship - for Christ's first disciples and for us today - is Christ-likeness. Jesus is just as much our teacher today as He was for the twelve who followed Him. The ultimate goal of discipleship is to develop the discipline of living a Christ-centered life and demonstrating and teaching that to others. This discipline and life is possible as a Christian submits his life to the
control of the Holy Spirit.
