Denomination: Grace Baptist
We are part of the mainstream worldwide Christian church that is now nearly two thousand years old (we've been part of that since 1850!). We are a small community of local Christians who worship God together and who enjoy being together to serve one another. We are also part of a group of evangelical Baptist Churches (the AGBC SE)
We are Christians - disciples of Jesus Christ - because of God's sovereign grace. We weren't born Christians (although some of us have parents who are also Christians) and we didn't become Christians by winning God's favour by doing enough good things (like coming to church, reading our Bibles or helping other people). We are Christians solely because at one point in each of our lives we called out for God's mercy; he heard us and gave us new life.
We span a wide age range and come from many different parts of the world (at the moment members come from ten different countries and our congregation includes people from a further six or more). Some of us are married, some not; some of us work, others do not; some of us. We are an outwardly diverse group yet, by God's grace, we are living out our new unity in Jesus Christ. Because we all love him, we are learning to love each other more than ourselves. And so we are aiming to be a real example of a Christ-centred community here in Highbury.
We believe that the Bible is the Word of God. We believe that Jesus is a real man who lived near Jerusalem shortly before the Roman conquest of Britain. We believe that Jesus is nothing less than the Son of God, who was born in order to die, and who died in order to rise again. Our commitment is to make the Bible’s timeless message about Jesus known.
We hope we are a welcoming church and invite you to visit us at one of our services or contact us through this website. Whoever you are, and whatever your beliefs, we would like to hear from you.
