Sacred Heart Church, located at 525 Campbell Avenue, has served the Strathcona/Grandview/Woodlands communities since 1905. In its early years, it primarily served the immigrant community providing support to Italian families new to Canada, and often assisted them to find work and adjust to their new environment. The Church site started with a school, after which a convent, church and rectory were built. By 1960, the Church site had four buildings occupying approximately half a block of land providing church services, education, and social opportunities to Catholics in the community.
